Inequalities with a square root are always solved by reducing them to one of two fundamental schemes, depending on the direction of the inequality. The guiding principle is always the same: squaring preserves inequalities only when both members are non-negative, and the radical is by definition within the domain of existence. In Year Three the scheme will be generalised with mixed cases; here we limit ourselves to the two canonical forms.
